It’s no secret to anyone that knows me that I like movies. Quite a bit, even. I’m pretty sure it was an early thing that my dear ol’ Dad instilled in me, a transferal if you will, of his own love of movies.
That being said, I didn’t even watch the Oscars. I really could care less about a show about movie awards, or really any award show. Matt Damon said it best when he suggested a ten year delay for the Oscars. Let us look back and then decide. These movies are too fresh, they’re babes, they’re new in our minds. Let them grow. But whatever. I’m just a gent who watches movies and decides himself if he likes them or not.
That, uh, second thing being said, I will still comment on the movies of the Oscars.
The Hurt Locker is probably one of the most tense, dramatic movies I have ever seen. I was on the edge of my seat, sweating it out, without really knowing it. I walked away from it thinking that it was an alright movie, until a few days later, when the true impact of it hit me like a rolling freight train. It was basically sitting down to a movie and trying to guess which guy was going to die.
Avatar was a movie I went and seen a whole bunch of times in Imax 3d, once by myself, by my lonesome, just cause. I loved it. The story was simple, the characters were pretty stereotypical, and there weren’t really many surprises. But I really liked the characters, and the story, maybe because it wasn’t trying to be The Dark Knight in complexity. Plus, I love science fiction, just love it.
What was my favorite movie of 2009? The Hurt Locker or Avatar. Ask me again in five years to narrow that down.
What was yours?

Hoooo…. I did not see a lot of current movies in 2009, but I was whoring the Disney classics like no one’s business, particularily Aladdin, The Lion King and Mulan. >_>
That being said…saw Alice In Wonderland on Saturday (sadly not in 3D). I know…I know, everyone’s giving this and anything Tim Burton has recently produced a big Two Dismembered Thumbs DOWN….but I liked it. A lot. Alan Rickman (SNAPE!) as a smoking caterpillar, Helena Bonham Carter looking like a bobblehead doll… If nothing else, go to see the most epic solo dance sequence in like, ever.

Oh man, the old Disney movies. You really can’t go wrong with them. Or really, any Disney movie. “The classics” as they say.
Which actually reminds me of the animated movies that came out in ‘09. I need to say that Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs was a great flick, in my mind, better than Up. I laughed and laughed, loved the story, and dug the characters.
And lastly… not sure if I’ll be seeing Alice in Wonderland right away. I’ve never been a big Alice fan, nor a big Tim Burton fan (I know, I know, I’m terrible.) Those two combined don’t hold much of an appeal for me, so I might end up waiting until a DVD release. Unless you REALLY REALLY recommend it. Because then I’d have to go.
Wow Jack, an average-size wooden pole is really gonna hold the undead at bay. Thank Zombie Jesus they’re locked in the Armoury of The Weaponry of the Past!
And about Alice….Er…yeah. If you’re not a huge Burton/Wonderland fan…you probably might not wanna waste time with it when you can just wait for a DVD or pirate it. Yes, I advocate piracy.
Also…you really shouldn’t make it public you’re easily swayed by recommendations. >_>
Only your recommendations. You’re just so darn special, being my most vocal reader and all. ; )
